Coming Clean

To be a cut above the rest and have top skin it shouldn’t take you more than 5 minutes a day before and after shaving…check out our helpful hints on what you need to do – it’s too easy!

Skincare isn’t just for girls – men’s skin is very different to women’s.. men have thicker, oiler skin, which is subjected to harsh treatment such as shaving!! Because of these differences, It’s important to use products that have been especially designed for men.

  1. Keep your skin clean! Men typically have oiler and thicker skin than women. It’s important, no matter what your skin type is like – oily, dry, normal or combination, to keep your skin clean of dirt and other impurities – using a good cleanser twice a day, like Facestuff’s The Cleaner, will help keep your skin in top condition. Men also tend to have bigger pores than women which can clog with blackhead and whiteheads, using a cleanser helps keep your skin clear and clean.
Tip - Never use hand soap on your face – it’s too harsh and will dry out your skin stripping it of it’s natural oils.
  2. Always clean the skin before shaving. Washing with warm water (not hot!) helps makes shaving easier as it softens the stubble.
  3. Exfoliate your skin. Over time dead skin cells build up, exfoliating them helps remove the dead top layer, keeping your skin looking fresh and healthy. We recommend exfoliating at least once a week, but more often if you feel like to you need to. Never use exfoliate near the eyes or mouth – the area around your eyes and mouth, the skin is thinner in these areas and tends to be more delicate.
  4. After cleaning this is the best time to moisturise your skin so it absorbs straight in – this is really important, especially in the harsh Australian environment. Moisturising helps keep the skin from dryness as well as keeps you looking fresh. When using after shaving, make sure you use a product that has no alcohol in it, such as Facestuff’s ‘The Undercover Agent. Products with alcohol in them may lead to irritation; alcohol also can cause the pores to close up leading to ingrown hairs.
  5. Protect yourself from the sun, always use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15+ when playing in the great outdoors. Also cover up with hats and long sleeved T-shirts as much as possible, if you are spending a day outdoors. Remember to reapply your sunscreen according to the directions on the bottle (typically every 2 hours).
  6. Moisturise your skin… from the inside!!! Drinking 8 glasses of water a day will not only help your skin but also is good for your health!

Interesting fact … did you know that when we get sunburnt and peel that it is the skins natural reaction to rid ourselves of potential skin cancers, it causes the damaged skin cells to commit suicide and fall off the body. Still it’s not advisable to go out unprotected in the sun even when our skin does its best to protect us rogue cells can still mutate and cause cancers. We all know the aussie sun is way too strong for the skin to do its job 100%, so sunscreen application daily is the only answer as well as the old cover up with hats, shirts and that sort of gear…
